Obituary for George Edward Dorr

George Edward Dorr, 94, son of Elmer & Jessie (Simmons) Dorr, was born November 9, 1924 in Glendon, Iowa. He passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Community Care Center in Stuart, Iowa, where he has been a resident since October of 2017.
George attended country schools west of Guthrie Center. He was drafted into the United States Army and served for a short time. On July 10, 1944, he married Lois Fagin in Nevada, Iowa. They made their home near the Yale area until moving into Yale in 1966. He spent many years working as a hired man. He then was a welder for Economy Forms in Des Moines for several years. In 1967, he bought a semi truck and drove for Ace Lines out of Des Moines. He retired from there in 1985. He then went to work for Dave Deardorff on the farm and he loved working for Dave but trucking was in his blood so he went back to driving semi trucks, first for Jim Tuel out of Bayard and then for Werner Enterprises. When he retired for the 3rd time from Werner, they held a retirement party and teased George that he couldn’t come back after they had a party for him.
He enjoyed riding his motorcycle and later his trike with Lois traveling to several states, then Lois would complain that she got sunburnt! He was a member of the Road Runner Motorcycle Club.
George is survived by his daughter, Donna Culbertson of Yale; sons, Loyal (Linda) Dorr of Guthrie Center; and Kevin (Susan) Dorr of Bayard; daughter-in-law, Lesli Dorr of Waukee; nine grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandchild; brother, Roger Dorr of Panora; sister Carol Ann Stringer of Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lois, son Kim, granddaughter Kelsey, son-in-law Jerry Culbertson, brothers Elmer Jr. & Melvin, and sister Peggy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M., Saturday, October 26, 2019 at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. Burial will be in the Prairie Center Cemetery, rural Yale. Visitation will be Friday, October 25, 2019 from 5-7 P.M. at the funeral home.
The family wanted to express a special thank you to Gina Walker with Kindred Hospice for her care with George.
