Obituary for Gorden Russell Jackson

Gorden Russell Jackson, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2018, his wife’s birthday, at the Life Care Center in Kirkland, Washington at the age of 89. Gorden lived with his son Kile and wife Susan Jackson in Duvall, WA since his wife Erville’s passing on September 25, 2009, Kile and Susan’s anniversary.
Gorden introduced himself to everyone he met, "Hello, I’m Gorden with and "E" and I’m an "Iowegion". "Gordy" knew a lot of families throughout many of Iowa’s counties. Everyplace Gorden would go, he’d strike up warm conversation with any unfamiliar face. Before that chat was over, they had found common ground, friends, or kin. Gorden always left you with a smile, a quirky joke, and a warm feeling inside.
Place’s you’ve probably seen Gorden: Changing film reels at the Garden Theatre in Guthrie Center. Taking pictures at the Guthrie County Fair. Delivering gasoline and fuel oil from his Standard Oil Tank Wagon. Many years at Steensen Gas and Electric, bringing you your first appliance after war rationing was over. Taking care of the Bar-L Ranch horses during the winters. Teaching adult education classes in Photography and Computers. Panora Library Board (library card# 707). Chaperoning the door and providing supervision for the kid’s dances where his sons Kile and Kim played guitar and drums. Building and flying kites and model airplanes with his son Carroll. Fishing with his daughter Karen. Playing cards, usually Pitch, with friends, and neighbors. Coffee time, (any town he was near) while servicing appliances, precisely 9 AM and 3 PM. Officially observing the weather for The Guthrie Center Times. Riding bicycles along the old Rail bed in Panora. Taking pictures near any scenic location from Madison County’s Covered Bridges, to your home, your family reunion, your wedding, and your school pictures or in his "Wonder Gem Studio" photographing those joyous moments in time.  Being picked up by the Senior Bus and taken to the Carnation Senior Center where he enjoyed coffee, music, activities, visiting, and a wonderful homemade lunch. Going along to all of Kile's many gigs, meeting The Coasters and The Drifters. Going to work out with Susan and sitting in the lobby telling all the pretty ladies the "Carroll, Kile, Kim, Karen Story".
Gorden Russell Jackson was born June 1, 1928 to John Edward Jackson and Lottie C. (Linton) Jackson in Highland County. His Great Grandfather, Alfred T Jackson came to Panora in 1867, at the age of 20. Then in 1888, taking his blacksmith shop to Bayard, Alfred Jackson’s family became some of Highland County’s first settlers.
Gorden met the love of his life, while he was a young man delivering newspapers in Guthrie Center. Even though she first appeared to him with rollers in her hair, he knew they would love each other forever. Gorden Jackson and Erville Watkins were married December 21, 1946. After a proper wedding and reception, they spent their December honeymoon in Albert Lee, Minnesota. The lovebirds wasted no time starting a family and home. Their sons are Carroll Lee, Kile Ray, and Kim Allen and their daughter is Karen Sue. Their family grew quickly with 4 children, 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Gorden will forever be in the hearts of his children, Carroll (Susie) Jackson of Ypsilanti, Michigan; Kile (Susan) Jackson of Duvall, WA; Kim (Denise) Jackson of Perry, IA; and Karen (Mike) Walter of Wasilla AK; grandchildren, Sara Jackson, Brandon (Gretchen) Jackson, Aaron (Liana) Jackson, Steven Jackson, Ryan Jackson, and Crystal (John) Miller; great-grandchildren, Cash, Elsie, & Ford Jackson, Mila & Gage Jackson, Aubry, Jade, Lily, Rose, and John Miller, Jr. Sister, Arlene (Allen) Solem of Sioux Falls, SD. Gorden was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Erville, and his sister Leota Mae Jackson who passed away at the age of 6.
A Celebration of his Life will be 2:00 P.M., Saturday, Oct 27, 2018 at the Panora First Christian Church, 102 E Church St. Panora, Iowa. Burial of his cremains will be in the Union Cemetery, Guthrie Center, then returning to First Christian Church for food and Fellowship.
