Obituary for Donald Joseph Staver

Donald Joseph Staver, 87, son of Charles & Goldie (Lavery) Staver, was born June 21, 1931 in Hazel Green, WI. He passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at his home.
In 1949, Don graduated from high school in Hazel Green, WI. He then attended Loras College in Dubuque, IA. He was drafted into the United States Army and served from 1952-1954 as a battlefield photographer during the Korean War. On June 23, 1956, he married Joan Kathryn Breitbach in Bankston, IA. They made their home in Dubuque, Iowa and lived there for many years. Don worked for Peoples Natural Gas, where he was the Marketing Director. In 1991, at age 60, he retired on Lake Panorama in Panora, IA.
Don and Joan enjoyed spending the following (20+) winters in San Diego, CA, where three of their daughters resided. Don’s greatest joys were faith and family. He loved cooking for family and friends as well as enjoying time on the lake boating, fishing, and playing golf. He also was very involved with St. Cecilia Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Don is survived by his wife, Joan of Panora; daughters, Kathy (Don) Berryman of Reno, NV, Lynn (Dave) Breitbach of Panora, Donna (Steve) Brody of Panora, and Laura (James) Knight of Santa Fe, NM; and son, Donald (Jenny) Staver, Jr. of Bettendorf, IA; 12 grandchildren, Christopher, Derek (Whitney), Heather (Britt), Jacob (Hope), Collin, Hannah, Kristin, Samantha, Caitlin, Nicholas, Alicia, and Olivia; and 5 great-grandchildren, Colton, Emerson, Keller, Noah, and Rowan. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Hazel, Kathleen, Juanita, Mildred, Marie, and Frances; and brother, Charles.
Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M., Saturday, February 9, 2019 at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Panora. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, at a later date.
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the loving care provided by Kindred Hospice, the faithful guidance of Father Tom Kunnel, Deacon Dick and Connie Ziller of St. Cecilia Catholic Church, and the overwhelming support of family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Charities Family Services.
