Obituary for Marjorie LaVaun Hill

Marjorie LaVaun Hill was born July 15th, 1923.  She was the youngest child of 5 siblings to Curtis and Nora Raner.  She was raised and went to school around Guthrie Center.
LaVaun met John Wesley Hill and they married November 23rd, 1938.  At that time, they lived around Fansler, Iowa, where John, her father, and brother all worked in the coal mine.  To this union two children were born, Larry Lee and Janelle Dawn.
LaVaun worked several jobs during her lifetime.  She enjoyed her job as an activity director at the Masonic Home in Perry, Iowa.  A hobby she did for many years was collecting antiques. 
LaVaun and John farmed many years on their farm east of Bagley.  After John passed away, LaVaun moved to Arizona, first in the winter, then full time in 1999.  She loved playing cards with her friends and trips to the casino for Bingo. 
LaVaun continued to live on her own and still was an avid cook.
In later years, she loved going to Justin’s and Jaron’s sports activities, but mostly traveling and following them at their golf meets. 
Survivors include daughter, Janelle (Gary) Smool of Sun Lakes, Arizona and grandsons Justin Smool of Henderson, Nevada and Jaron Smool of Chandler, Arizona.  She also has 3 nieces Marlene Flattum who resides in California, Joyce Klein who resides in Missouri, and Shannon Moore who resides in Florida, and 1 nephew Phil Raner of Clear Lake, Iowa. 
She is proceeded in death by John in 1996, son Larry, her parents Curtis and Nora Raner, two sisters, and two brothers.
Graveside services will be 3:00 P.M., Friday, July 12, 2019 at Highland Township Cemetery, near Bayard.
